At the end of May I decided to end my Challenge of 2010 (I did do new things through May… I just went on vacation and forgot to write them down before I took off).

It wasn’t because it was too hard. It actually was a lot easier in the last couple months. Once you get in the habit of doing new things, it starts to come naturally!

I stopped because I realized I wasn’t going anywhere. I had no goals. There was nothing I was striving for, working towards… I was just wandering around haphazard-like. This might work for some people, but it wasn’t working for me.

So I decided that for the sake of my quality of life, I would put the blog aside and become involved in more meaningful things and things I enjoy. I plan to become involved consistently with a few community groups and spend time doing some of the things I’ve learned that I enjoy thanks to this Challenge. And, of course, I will continue to do new things!

Since I stopped blogging, I’ve still been keeping things fresh! A visit to Orlando and Walt Disney World with my sister held LOTS of new experiences, and I’ve done some other fun stuff, such as:

  • Contribute to a Guinness World Record
  • Rent a car
  • Purchase lumber
  • Appear on tv
  • Go to a court hearing
  • Get a second opinion (dr.)
  • Go to physical therapy
  • Waterproof a tent
  • Drink Greek wine
  • Host a Girls’ Night with coworkers
  • Zip lining (coming July 10!)
  • A couple Personal Folder items
  • And lots of other things that I don’t remember off the top of my head!

Cheers to new, different, and fun things! Cheers to doing what you have to do to feel good about how you spend each and every day!

Thanks for reading!

Buca di Beppo = delicious

I went to WQED in the evening for a community viewing of a video about the decline of America’s first suburbs, including a discussion of what that means for Pittsburgh and what can be done… all well and good. It was okay. Cool part – it was in Mr. Roger’s studio.

I finally got what I wanted… to be towed in a kayak! I went out with my friend and the inflatable kayak lost a lot of air, so on our way back in, I laid down flat in the boat (to distribute my weight, making it easier to float) while holding onto the back of the other one… I got a free ride in! It was so wonderful! Since the boat lost air, it was a nice, soft, cushiony bed. I couldn’t have planned it out better if I’d tried!

I learned how to create a distribution list in Microsoft Outlook… a wonderful tool! I needed it for DHS’ highly acclaimed DHS Speaker Series. I’d direct you to our webpage, but it’s not that highly acclaimed =)

I designed, but have not printed yet, business cards for my other blog, Change the Way You Think. I often find myself telling people about it, but I have no way of conveniently referring them to the site! I need to get on that!

AWESOME cafe in Regent Square. Delicious food! Great atmosphere!

If you go, get the fruit crepes. I don’t care if you go for breakfast or lunch. Just get them.

Strawberry smoothie was okay, but not great.

I did speed networking at work with other people who work in the Department of Human Services. It was okay. Not something I’m going to rush to sign up for again, though. It was nice to meet people I knew by name, but not face. But, well, it was just okay.

I’ve been holding off on going to Church Brew Works because a friend from home wanted to go with me, but it’s been 10 months and she hasn’t visited, so when the opportunity to go there with some friends presented itself, I had to take it!

It’s a pretty cool place – an old church converted into a brewpub. I had a great beer (I know it was different, but I also have no idea what it was, other than my server’s favorite), and delicious Garden Plum Tomato Pizza (surprisingly good!)!

Unfortunately, my visit was a bit rushed because I had to leave in under an hour, but next time I will take the time to soak up the atmosphere, and great beers!
